Craniofacial Reconstruction Based on MLS Deformation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Craniofacial reconstruction aims at estimating the facial outlook associated to an unknown specimen. Craniofacial reconstruction is generally based on the statistical tissue thickness on anthropometric landmarks. However, the features points alone are not enough for realistic reconstruction. So, in our paper, we take advantage of a reference facial model, through measuring the differences between the target facial feature points and the reference facial feature points, a novel craniofacial reconstruction algorithm based on moving least squares deformation is presented. The 3D skull mesh model is obtained with Marching Cube Algorithm, which extract the iso-surfaces from a complete head CT slices datum. The holes detected in the 3D skull model can be repaired with different methods after the holes are clarified. Then, the craniofacial is reconstructed using MLS deformation with the constraint of a reference facial model. The experimental results show that the methods can produce more desirable results than others’. Key-Words: Craniofacial reconstruction, Deformation, MLS, Feature points, Hole repairing

متن کاملMethod of the Craniofacial Archaeological Reconstruction by Deformation of the Model Face
Article presents fast method of the face reconstruction for forensic and archeology science developed by authors which is based on a deformation of the known skin aligned to skull. As a guide to deformation a position of the well known anatomical landmarks is used. Calculation of the new position of the vertices of a triangle mesh of the model presented is a result of the inverse distance weigh...
متن کاملSharp feature preserving MLS surface reconstruction based on local feature line approximations
Sharp features in manufactured and designed objects require particular attention when reconstructing surfaces from unorganized scan point sets using moving least squares (MLS) fitting. It’s an inherent property of MLS fitting that sharp features are smoothed out. Instead of searching for appropriate new fitting functions our approach computes a modified local point neighborhood so that a standa...
متن کاملMeasuring Symmetry in Children With Unrepaired Cleft Lip: Defining a Standard for the Three-Dimensional Midfacial Reference Plane.
OBJECTIVE Quantitative measures of facial form to evaluate treatment outcomes for cleft lip (CL) are currently limited. Computer-based analysis of three-dimensional (3D) images provides an opportunity for efficient and objective analysis. The purpose of this study was to define a computer-based standard of identifying the 3D midfacial reference plane of the face in children with unrepaired cl...
متن کاملLaplacian Deformation with Symmetry Constraints for Reconstruction of Defective Skulls
Skull reconstruction is an important and challenging task in craniofacial surgery planning, forensic investigation and anthropological studies. Our previous method called FAIS (Flip-Avoiding Interpolating Surface) [17] is reported to produce more accurate reconstruction of skulls compared to several existing methods. FAIS iteratively applies Laplacian deformation to non-rigidly register a refer...
